Courses Offered
Band Classes
Band courses are currently divided based on instrument range to allow rehearsal time to focus on similar parts.
These three classes are:
High Voices: Flute/Piccolo, Oboe, Soprano Clarinet, and Trumpet
Low Voices: Harmony Clarinets, Alto, Tenor, & Bari Saxes, F Horn, Trombone, Baritone, and Tuba
Percussion: All percussion students
Students will be expected to master performance skills necessary to perform grade appropriate concert literature and instrumental fundamentals. Students will participate in the marching band in the fall and concert band in the spring. Additional coursework will cover an introduction to Music Theory.
Fundamentals of Music Theory
As part of the Career Pathway we offer a course that covers the basics of Music Theory. Basic written and aural skills will be covered preparing students for more advanced studies in music composition and theory.
A.P. Music Theory
Offered in alternate years, AP Music Theory picks up where Fundamentals of Music Theory ends. Covering advanced composition techniques and aural skills this class prepares students to take the AP Music Exam at the end off the year. Fundamentals of Music Theory is not a required pre-requisite for this course but it is highly recommended
String Class
For all grade level students who have previous experience with string instruments. This course will cover the performance of basic literature and work in conjunction with other local orchestra programs to expand the students’ skills and repertoire.
Class Guitar
This course will cover the performance of basics of performance technique including reading notation and tablature.
